The Pig is an absurd neo-folktale that projects into a future space of peak capitalism where human organs are bought and sold and the market has expanded to commodify our bodies. In this thrilling world of “eat or be eaten”, the piece calls to question human agency in the face of systems that control us – and whether our choices are made through free will or systemic coercion. This grotesque fairytale explores what happens to our humanity as the market overtakes everything. Through absurdity, myth and horror, we travel down a gruesome path where justice is not served and power corrupts. What are we capable of in the darkest of times? What would you do to survive? The Pig explores the nature of humanity when capitalism pushes us beyond the brink to a place of no return.
This performance was a further exploration of The Pig, which was previously created and explored in the 2023 Research and Development Project - more info here.
